You’re moving into a place with security alarms
A new house may come with a home security system. All the alarms and cameras function well, are hung in the best spaces, and are ready to go. In this example, just pick up the phone to call and start a new monitoring contract. A Vivint installer will still come out to ensure there are no compatibility issues, and they could offer options on upgrades. It's a preliminary appointment, and you can get your monitoring set up without worrying about any new devices -- unless you get some new devices.
The previous owners can give an existing Vivint contract to your family for a one-time transfer fee to make the transfer a snap. If the owners are moving to an apartment or smaller home, transferring the home security service might be an addendum of the sale.
You need to move and take your old devices with you
You may need to bring along your old smart devices with you to a new house when you move. That’s fairly easy to accomplish, as modern components are wireless. You can take down each component yourself or contact a Vivint expert to come and take care of your devices. Then a pro will hang the same features -- and any smart services you need to add -- in your new place. The home security contract will remain the same.
